Hisense M2 Pro Fits a Triple Laser 4K Engine in a Portable Projector

Remember when portable projectors that can adjust their beam to project at the ceiling seemed like such a niche idea? Well, that’s changed a lot since the Samsung Freestyle proved there’s a real market for that. The Hisense M2 Pro is the newest such device to join the fray.

Billed as the outfit’s “smallest, lightest, most portable 4K laser mini projector,” the device boasts a miniaturized version of the outfit’s core triple laser engine, which enables the impressively compact size and light weight. It renders images with the same Pure Triple Color Laser technology as the rest of the outfit’s Laser TV products, too, so it should deliver some impressive visuals coming from such a tiny package.

The Hisense M2 Pro measures a compact 8.6 x 7.6 x 9.1 inches (height x width x depth) and weighs 8.6 pounds, which are downright impressive numbers for a projector that can beam 4K images at up to 200-inch screen sizes. Do note, you’ll need to position it at least 14.5 feet away from the projection surface to get that 200-inch picture, although there are plenty of smaller screen options at shorter distances (a 100-inch screen, for instance, requires just 7.2 feet). The listed throw ratio is 1 to 1.3:1, with the range enabled by the built-in optical zoom.

It should deliver a great picture, too, with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 110 percent coverage of the BT.2020 color space, and a maximum brightness of 1,300 ANSI lumens. As we said, it delivers 4K video, complete with an AI upscaler that can intelligently transform lower-res footage into proper 4K, an AI noise reducer to ensure a clean picture, and an AI HDR upscaler to ensure a dynamic viewing experience. Speaking of HDR, it supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, and HDR10+, so you get to enjoy HDR content in all its full colors.

The Hisense M2 Pro has a design that mounts the main projector’s body to the integrated stand in a suspended manner. This allows it to tilt freely, making it easy to beam it straight up the wall one moment and angle it to project to the ceiling the next. It has all the usual setup corrections, too, including autofocus, auto screen fit, auto keystone, and obstacle avoidance (it automatically resizes for best fit), ensuring it doesn’t take long to get a clear picture any time you change where the image is being beamed.

It comes with dual-band Wi-Fi and an Ethernet slot, you can go wireless or wired for your internet connection. Do note, this doesn’t have a battery, so it’s not portable enough for running without a power source, although the size does make it easy to move around the house, so long as you have a power outlet nearby. Other features include an integrated 20-watt sound system, Dolby Atmos and DTS: Virtual X support, a gaming mode that boost refresh rate to 240Hz (but drops resolution to 1080p), 12ms input lag, motion compensation technology, and an included Bluetooth remote with voice search support. It runs on VIDAA OS, which comes preloaded with Netflix and other popular streaming apps.

The Hisense M2 Pro is now available for preorder, priced at $1,299.99.
