Does anyone really need an electric scooter that can go 65 mph? Probably not. There are, however, a lot of people who enjoy riding electric scooters that can hit those blistering speeds. That kind of speed is exactly what they’re offering with the Solar Hyperion.
That’s right, Hyperion’s latest electric scooter is rated to hit top speeds of 65 mph, allowing you to tear through the streets like a motorcycle while riding what looks like a child’s toy. We don’t know if that top speed is electronically-limited, but we imagine it probably is, which means you can probably uncap to go even faster. No, it probably won’t come near the 100mph of the Rion RE90, but it’s still absurdly fast all the same.
The Solar Hyperion achieves those high speeds using a pair of 3500W motors, both of which can register 4500W each at peak power. The motors draw power from a 72V 40Ah Samsung battery pack, which, the outfit claims, gives it a range of 70 miles, allowing you to get around for quite a bit before needing to recharge. Of course, actual mileage will vary based on rider weight, riding speed, terrain, and more, but the 70 miles should be doable in ideal conditions. To ensure a plush ride, it sports adjustable hydraulic shocks front and rear that boasts a 2,000-pound capacity and a 90-degree tilt angle.
It has 11-inch pneumatic tires with anti-skid properties, so it will stay glued to the ground even at high speeds, while hydraulic brakes on both front and rear ensure reliable stopping power any time you need it. There’s regenerative braking, by the way, so you get a trickle of juice back to the battery every time you squeeze on the brakes. The whole thing is IP66-rated, too, so you should be able to ride it through the wetter days of the year. Just don’t submerge it, since it’s still not fully waterproof.
The Solar Hyperion uses a thumb throttle for acceleration, which, the outfit claims, registers no dead zone, ensuring instantaneous speed boost any time you want it, as well as button controls right next to it for quickly choosing speed modes. You can see all pertinent riding stats (speed, mileage, ride time, voltage, battery level, and more) on a 4.3-inch LCD display out front, which also comes with an app that lets you project a map from your phone, so you can use it for navigation. The scooter requires you to enter a passcode on the LCD before the motor will start, by the way, although you can also use the companion app for a quicker way of unlocking the ride.
Unlike many scooters, it incorporates turn signals, which should make it a bit safer to ride in traffic, while a 2,000-lumen headlight lets you illuminate the road up to 18 meters away. Other features include a tail light, deck lighting (the entire top edge of the foot deck uses electroluminescent tech), a total weight of 110 pounds, and a maximum rider weight of 330 pounds.
The Solar Hyperion is available now, priced at $3,299.99.
